Since mid October I’ve been saying the season is finally coming to an end. However, jobs kept trickling in and I’ve have been able to continue to work all the way in to the new year! I love my job as a private chef here in Mallorca and I’m so happy and grateful to have been able to continue to work through fall and the beginning of winter. But, I’m also in need of some rest. Charging the batteries and finding new inspiration is on the top of my vacation list.
Inspiration is everywhere but sometimes it’s good to change the perspective and to get some completely new influences. This morning I started looking at trips. Since I live in Mallorca, a paradise island in the Mediterranean, I prefer a bit of a more active vacation. I’m a complete water baby and the only downside with my job is that I don’t have much time to enjoy the sea during the summer.
Sri Lanka (I lost all my photos of Sri Lanka when my phone died a few years ago, all but one video of a breaking wave…) is one of my favourite places in the world but I suffer a lot from jet lag and I think ”just” two weeks would end up getting me in the right sleeping pattern when it’s time to head back home again. Only to start over, resetting another jetlag from traveling in the opposite direction.
At the moment I’m thinking South Africa, Mozambique or Madagascar. I’ve never been to either of them before. But they are all more or less in the same time zone as Spain. I’ve heard lots of good things about SA, both food and nature wise.
One of the first things I dreamt of doing when I started Freediving was exploring a kelp forrest along with the cenotes of Mexico and diving with sperm whales, (different locations naturally), I’d love to dive with seals and in SA there might even be a penguin or two around..!
The spearfishing is also supposed to be really good in the area and then there’s of course also the option to go see the big 5 on a safari. With SA being in the same time zone I’d also be free of jet lag and after living in Australia for years, spending every holiday in Sweden, a 27hour plane trip away, a 13 hour flight doesn’t even seem that bad. Watching my own train of thoughts it seems I might have made up my mind?
Starting to get excited now!
